Pevensey bay is an old fishing village founded in the 1600s and is the perfect blend of historic and coastal attraction. Pevensey Castle is the starting point for the 31 mile long 1066 Country Walk Long Distance Path which takes in major sites linked to the invasion including the 1066 Battlefield site at nearby Battle and Hastings Castle, the area was actually underwater during the Norman invasion. It was originally a spit of land attached to Eastbourne but with the sea level dropping, the shingle has now spread as far as Bexhill to the East. In the early 1900s the village started to become the holiday resort it is known as today with much of the development starting in 1930s. Pevensey Bay, which is separated from the inland village by the Pevensey Levels marshes, is notorious for water sports as it’s just above sea level.
